February 4, 2013 – Lakewood, WA – Pettit Oil Company is pleased to announce it is acquiring the heating oil and commercial fuel and lubricants distribution assets held within PNEC Corporation which does business as SC Fuels, headquartered in Tacoma, WA. This acquisition also includes PNEC distribution facilities in Bremerton and Everett, WA. The transaction is scheduled to close on February 15, 2013. Terms were not disclosed.
According to Pettit Oil President Jim Tener, “This move significantly expands our company’s footprint within Western Washington, especially in the Puget Sound, and Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas. Our geographic coverage, array of services, and customer‐focused culture is unrivaled within these markets.”
According to SC Fuels’ Chief Operating Officer Steven Greinke, “The decision to sell PNEC fits within our larger plan to strategically reposition our company. However, the decision is not taken lightly by our family. Since taking ownership of the company in 1997, PNEC has been a successful business for SC Fuels. This achievement would not have been possible without the strategic focus, hard work, and dedication of PNEC’s outstanding management and employees.”
One of the largest privately held services companies in Washington State, Pettit Oil Company operates distribution facilities in Everett, Lakewood, Hoquiam, Forks, Port Angeles, Port Townsend, and Bremerton, Washington. Jack Pettit established Pettit Oil with a specific mission in mind—to provide second-to-none customer service within a family atmosphere. Today, current owners Norm and Linda Sather continue to embrace this founding principle. “Our products are not unique; people can get lubricants and fuels from other suppliers and competitors,” states Chris Williams, Senior Vice President of Operations, who has worked at Pettit Oil for 21 years. “What’s unique is the way we provide our service, constantly working at exceeding our customers’ expectations. Pettit Oil operates out of its new corporate office in Lakewood, Wash., with additional distribution facilities in Hoquiam, Port Angeles, Port Townsend and Forks, Wash. The company serves multiple industries but focuses heavily on the industrial and automotive lubricant segments with an emphasis on marine, logging, construction, saw mill, paper machine and passenger car applications. “I started working at Pettit Oil in 1991. Since then, we have grown our lubricants supply from 300,000 to about a million gallons a year. “Even though we have expanded significantly, our values haven’t changed. Williams credits the company’s lubricants success to its incredible team of trained lubricant industry specialists and General Managers, Dan Curto and Roy Coady, and our relationship with Phillips 66 Lubricants. “We are huge supporters of Phillips 66 Lubricants,” he shares. “Everyone there is always willing to help us out, no matter the circumstance, and consistently provides friendly service, making it easy for us to work together.”
Pettit Oil has worked with Phillips 66 Lubricants for more than 20 years and has found great success with Kendall Motor Oil and 76-branded lubricants. “When we talk to customers about their needs and problems, these brands and products sell themselves,” Williams attests. “Easy sells are far and few between, but 76 products certainly help; customers trust the Phillips 66 Lubricants name.” In addition to its products, Pettit Oil has utilized several Phillips 66 Lubricants programs, such as the training seminars and the new Kendall Motor Oil Free Gas Sweepstakes program. “For us, the Advanced Products Course, Counselor Selling and Industrial Products Course are incredibly valuable to our sales team,” he continues. “When the team returns from these sessions, everyone is beaming from ear-to-ear with industry knowledge! Phillips 66 Lubricants has a great format within their training courses, and we make sure our salespeople attend regularly.” Furthermore, Hammons has also been an asset as Pettit Oil’s MSR. “We have been fortunate to have Dennis “Duck” Hammons as our MSR for most all of our 20 years with Phillips 66 Lubricants,” Williams points out. “Our success is in part due to Duck’s tremendous support and knowledge. He is always there to answer our questions, meet and work with our customers and help us compete in a very competitive market.”
In addition to providing quality petroleum products and related services, Pettit Oil pledges its time and resources to local endeavors and charities, adopting one primary cause—the annual Pettit Fall Classic Golf Tournament, which benefits the Greater Lakes Mental Healthcare organization. After this year’s donation, the company has donated close to $500,000 to improve mental health.
